Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist/ Experienced band 5 Biomedical Scientist.

We are looking for an experienced, versatile and motivated individual to join our Histopathology team as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, AFC band 6. The laboratory is based at City Hospital Birmingham which is CPA accredited. Applicants should have a minimum of three years’ experience as a HPC registered BMS, will have completed the IBMS specialist diploma and will have expertise in immunocytochemistry. Knowledge of, and an interest in, Information Technology would be beneficial as well as experience in workflow management of the laboratory.

Applications from experienced band 5s who are within one year of completion of the IBMS specialist diploma may also be considered. This would be paid under AFC annex U which equates to 75% of the top of band 6.The post holder must be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist.

The Histopathology department is well-equipped and provides a wide range of diagnostic services to the hospital and local community. We have recently had a successful inspection under UKAS ISO15189:2012 standards and are awaiting accreditation. The department processes 23,000 Histology specimens and 4000 non-Gynaecological specimens per annum and has an extensive immunohistochemistry repertoire. You will be expected to rotate through all areas of the laboratory. The department actively supports career development and has been accredited by the IBMS for training support staff, registration portfolio training and specialist portfolio training. Laboratory opening hours are between Monday and Friday 07:30-17:00. A rota operates between these times.

Minimum qualification requirements:

BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences.

Specialist portfolio from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences or within one year of completion.

HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist.
