An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist specialising in Blood Transfusion and holding FIBMS, MSc or equivalent who has a track record of effective performance at BMS Band 6/7 level, to assist in the day to day running of the Blood Transfusion Laboratory. You should have proven experience in Blood Transfusion and evidence of advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques, together with an understanding of all relevant legislation, GMP and UK guidelines.
The Blood transfusion laboratory supports the varied services provided at King’s which include Foetal Medicine Unit, Liver Transplant Unit, a large Obstetric department, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and a designated Major Trauma Centre. As a Blood Establisment we are regularly inspected by MHRA, CPA accredited and IBMS approved for pre-registration and specialist training in Haematology with Hospital Transfusion Practice.
The department is one of the busiest Blood transfusion laboratories in UK processing 80,000 group and save samples annually.
You will be working in a team of 21 which includes 10 dedicated Out of Hours staff, supporting the Blood Bank Manager in the day-to day organisation, management and supervision of the Blood Transfusion Laboratory to ensure delivery of a timely, first class service.
The department is equipped with 2 Biorad IH1000 and 1 ID-Gelstation analysers. The Haemonectics BloodTrack system is utilised across the Kings site. LIMS is provided by WinPath, Clinisys system.
