An opportunity has arisen for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to work within the Haematology department at Cambridge University Hospitals. You are required to hold the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology. Consideration will however be given to Band 5 Biomedical Scientists with experience, progressing through the Specialist Portfolio.

The Haematology Department comprises an automation section that is incorporated with Biochemistry to form a Blood Sciences department. There will be an opportunity for cross-training with biochemistry.
The laboratory benefits from a fully automated Siemens Aptio track and the following equipment:

Haematology
Siemens Advia 2120i full blood count analysers, IL-TOP 750LAS coagulometers, Sediplus s-2000 ESR, Sebia Capillarys 2 capillary electrophoresis and Menarini Hb9210 HPLC.

Biochemistry
Siemens Advia 2400 Chemistry, Dimension EXL 200 and Centaur XP analysers.

Applications are invited from experienced Biomedical Scientists with previous experience working within Haematology. Participation in the department's 24/7 shift system is mandatory.

Being a referral centre for Haemato-oncology and Haemophilia / Thrombophilia, the department has the advantage of having hands on experience with interesting patient cases.
The department is an IBMS registered teaching laboratory and participation in continuing professional development is encouraged. The department is currently CPA accredited working towards ISO 15189.

You will be responsible for participating in all aspects of the service including Routine Haematology, Coagulation, blood film morphology and parasitology, haemoglobin electrophoresis and the antenatal screening service.
You will be part of an exciting and enthusiastic team. There is a strong senior leadership team within Blood Sciences that would be available for support.
