Medical Laboratory Associate Practitioner
Biochemistry Department.
Permanent full time position (37.5 hours)

We are seeking applications from self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals for the post of Associate Practitioner in the Biochemistry department. The pathology support worker team provides support to the Biomedical Scientist staff.

The Biochemistry laboratory is CPA accredited and processes in excess of 1,000,000 samples per year. It is well equipped, providing a wide range of routine and specialist diagnostic services.

The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within Biochemistry and follow Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to provide technical support to Biomedical Scientists.
The post holder will be required receipt and preparation samples :- barcode labeling and data entry of confidential information for Blood Sciences onto the Pathology computer system (Masterlab).
The post holder will be required to centrifuge to separate blood samples, sort and aliquot urine samples.
The post holder will also be required to clean laboratory glassware and containers used in Biochemistry and Histology departments.
Previous experience of laboratory work is preferable but not essential as in house training will be given to enable the successful applicant to meet the requirements of the job.
The proficient use of the Pathology Computer system is required, full training will be given.

Qualifications:

Applicants would be expected to have a good standard of Education demonstrated by GCSEs (in Maths, English and a Science subject). An NVQ2 or equivalent (this may include an Apprenticeship in a suitable field such as Clinical Laboratory Support or the IBMS Certificate of Achievement).

Hours of Work

The work pattern will be 37.5 hours per week over 7 days, covering the period 8am to 8pm.
