Blood Sciences at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is part of the Barnsley and Rotherham Integrated Laboratory Services. This modern department offers a wide range of diagnostic testing facilities for Rotherham and Barnsley Hospitals, local GP practices. . The department is fully CPA accredited and an IBMS accredited training laboratory.

We are looking for a motivated innovative individual who is professional, reliable, and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team.

The successful candidate must be registered with the HCPC. They will have at least two years’ experience in a Haematology and Transfusion department and have passed their specialist portfolio in Haematology and Transfusion Science or equivalent. Ideally they will also have experience working in another Blood Sciences Discipline. They will be expected to participate in the out of hours rota.

The Haematology Section equipment includes 2 Siemens Advia 2120i’s, 2 Stago STAR Evolutions and a Becton and Dickinson FC-Canto II flowcytometer. Haemoglobinopathy studies using HPLC technology is also part of the departmental repertoire.

The Blood Bank is fully automated and computerised utilising DiaMed IH-1000 technology. The Blood Bank provides a service to the hospital and an Antenatal Serology and Routine Prophylactic anti-D service to the Rotherham community.

All the analysers are linked to the Clinisys WinPath LIMS system.

The Rotherham Hospital Trust is situated close to the Derbyshire Peak District and is within easy reach of the major cities of Sheffield and Leeds. There is a wide range of good quality housing for purchase or rent available at affordable prices in the area. Local social, cultural and sporting activities are in plentiful supply and there is a good choice of schools on both the public and private sectors. South Yorkshire is well located for easy travel to most parts of the country via good road and rail networks.
