Band 7 Biomedical Scientist–Haematology Training Lead

Full Time- 37.5 hours per week

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and dedicated Haematology team within the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and we invite applications from Biomedical Scientists with significant experience of working in a Haematology Department and evidence of training and coaching skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience and a thorough understanding of Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion and the requirements of ISO15189 accreditation.

The succesful candidate will have experience in, and a thorough understanding of, the requirements to meet Certificate of Competency for HCPC Registration and the IBMS Registration and Specialist Portfolios. You will have a thorough understanding of the training requirements for all laboratory staff. You will lead on the development of competency assessments for all grades of staff to meet the standards of ISO 15189:2012 accreditation. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an aptitude for encouraging staff development. The successful candidate will be given training support where required.

There is a full 24/7 hour acute/urgent service at Watford and a Monday to Friday non urgent service provided at the Hemel Hempstead site. The successful candidate is expected to act as a Band 7 Team Leader when required, but will be allocated at least 60% of their time in the Training Lead role. On-Call participation is not a requirement of the role.

The laboratory is moving towards a full multidisciplinary blood sciences service but the majority of your time will be spent in Coagulation, Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections. The department is accredited to ISO 15189:2012 UKAS assessment. This role requires working closely with the current Team Leaders, Quality management staff, and Blood Science Managers.
