Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Biochemistry

Applications are invited for enthusiastic and experienced Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientists to join the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The applicant must possess an MSc in an appropriate discipline or have FIBMS and will be expected to demonstrate active participation in CPD. The applicant must have a minimum 5 years post HCPC registration experience in a relevant discipline.

The successful candidate will be required to work in the Automated Chemistry Section on the University Lewisham Hospital (UHL) or Queen Elizabeth Woolwich (QEW) site. In the future they may be required (with training) to manage any of the sections within the Blood Sciences Department on either site within the Trust.

At the QEW laboratory Biochemistry staff rotate through Automation, POCT, Manual, Special Proteins and Immunology sections. Although the successful candidate may be trained to manage any of the above sections in the future, they will initially be working in the Automated Chemistry Section.

The Automated Chemistry section at QEW has two lines of Roche Cobas 8000 units (C702 and e602) and Pre and Post Analytical units (Roche RSA Pro p612 and RSD p512).

The Automated section at UHL is equipped with two lines of Roche Cobas 8000 units (C702 and e801) and a Beckman Automate 1250 sample processor.

The laboratories use Clinisys (Winpath) LIMS

The Trust uses Cerner Order Comms for inpatient work and is rolling out T Quest for GP work.

Both laboratories have full UKAS accreditation.
