HCA Laboratories has over 35 years’ experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.

We are looking to recruit candidates for permanent and bank positions within our facilities. We also now have an opportunity for candidates to work with us via Annualised Hours (Bureau) positions. Within an Annualised Hours position, successful candidates would be entitled to the same benefits as permanent members of staff, as they would be contracted to an agreed set number of hours per month - with the ability to take additional bank hours should these contractual hours be met!

Job Description:

The successful candidate will provide a quality, multi-disciplinary analytical role enabling the provision of a comprehensive services for laboratory users. Speedy and accurate processing of samples, the interpretation and validation of results. Perform a range of scientific procedures involving the processing of biomedical specimens to contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and investigation of pathological processes.

The successful candidate will be expected to work as a team member within our team and will be responsible for the speedy and accurate processing of samples and the interpretation and validation of results for laboratory users.

Providing a quality, multi-disciplinary analytical role enabling the provision of a comprehensive 24 hour service for laboratory users.

Working as a team member bringing any problems which may affect the provision of the service to the attention of Department Head.

This is a full time role working 37.5 hrs per week.

Successful candidates working nights will generally work between 20:30 and 08:00, with the successful candidate being assigned in the rota with roles over a 5 x 5 week periods.

The attractive and competitive salary for this role starts at £31,972 for a BMS1 and £39,135 for a BMS2 and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:

-Adhere to Health and Safety policies

-Follow HCA policies and procedures

-Follow SOP’s and in accordance with manufacturers operating instructions

-Stock control and rotation

Identify own training and development needs and undertake training/education as required. Achieve competence in the areas outlined in the training manual. Attend HCA mandatory training

Maintain professional development records in compliance with IBMS and HCPC requirements. Treat all users of the service in an efficient and courteous manner and to ensure that all enquiries that cannot be dealt with directly are passed on to an appropriate senior member of the department

Skills and Experience:

-HCPC Registered

-BSc Biomedical Science or equivalent

-Member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences

-Post registration experience

-Evidence of continual personal development
