The department of laboratory medicine at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), is UKAS accredited and incorporates blood transfusion, clinical biochemistry, coagulation, haematology, immunology and molecular pathology.

We are looking for suitably-qualified, energetic and enthusiastic HCPC registered biomedical scientists to join our friendly team on a full-time, basis. The appointment is permanent within the haematology and blood transfusion laboratory initially, although you may be required to work in other areas of laboratory medicine with suitable training. Equipment within the department includes Sysmex XN blood counters, ACL 'TOP' coagulation analysers and Ortho Vision blood grouping machines.

UHS is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe with an exciting mix of clinical specialities. The successful candidates will gain a wide range of skills and experience in pathology support for specialities such as the trauma centre, stem cell transplant, cardiac surgery, haemostasis, and paediatrics. The opportunity also exists to be involved with Harvey’s gang (an exciting patient care initiative within pathology).

The successful candidate will possess good interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work well in a team and good prioritisation skills are essential. IT skills would be desirable. This is an exciting opportunity to broaden your experience and work in a modern and well-equipped laboratory providing an extensive repertoire of investigations.

You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, working flexibly between 08:00 - 20:00 hours including weekends. Future progression may include participation in 24/7 working on a shift system.
