A band 6 BMS position has become available at the Hammersmith Hospital’s Haematology and Transfusion Laboratory within Blood Sciences. The candidate would be primarily rotate through the main sections in Haematology and Transfusion where you would provide full analytical support for service.
The applicant would be required to quickly adapt to the operations of the Laboratory Information System and be conversant with the requirements for a wide range of routine and special blood tests in a high through-put laboratory so previous substantive experience in all sections of the Haem& Transfusion laboratories is essential.
You would get the opportunity to have first-hand training and experience on the new Alinity and Stago platforms in Haematology for FBC and coagulation and the use of specialist equipment performing multimer and Mass spectrometry analysis for thrombophilia and haemoglobinopathy investigations. You would get an exciting opportunity to rotate through Morphology where you would observe a wide range of platelet, white and red cell morphological abnormalities. The Blood Transfusion Dept is also a specialist centre with exciting investigations on bone morrow & renal transplants, including a set-up for Intra Uterine pre-natal transfusions. Therefore a good understanding and keen interest to develop in Haematology and Transfusion is essential for rewarding experience.
The successful applicant would also be required to work on the 24/7 shift system on a rostered basis; this includes weekend and night shifts.
It is an essential requirement that applicants are HCPC state registered with sufficient post registration experience in busy high-throughput Haem/Transfusion laboratories.
