An opportunity has arisen for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratories at Pennine Acute Hospitals. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated individuals with experience in Haematology and Blood Transfusion Science to join our team.
Applications will be accepted from candidates who have recently graduated and have completed their Registration Portfolio. Working across a range of sections you will receive support and development through training and gain experience in specialist areas.
The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest non-teaching NHS Trusts in the UK and the laboratory processes in excess of 1,000,000 specimens per annum. The department is well equipped with Sysmex XN full blood count automation system including automated ESR analysis, digital morphology and sample sorting, Instrumentation Laboratory TOP, GeneXpert PCR, Beckman Coulter DX800i, BioRad Variant HPLC equipment and Ortho Vision automated blood group serology. Blood transfusion practice includes Electronic Issue and a patient blood management programme is in place to support anaemia management. The department is fully computerised with Clinisys LabCentre.
The custom built, Central Service Laboratory at The Royal Oldham Hospital also serves the Trust sites at North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital Bury and Rochdale Infirmary. In addition there are modern, similarly equipped Essential Service Laboratories at North Manchester General Hospital and Fairfield General Hospital.
The philosophy of the laboratory is to promote best practice and provide high quality services. The department is approved by the HCPC for training to state registration and is ISO 15189; 2012 accredited. CPD and further study is encouraged and supported. Band 5 staff automatically progress to Band 6 on successful completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma.
The post is subject to the Agenda for Change NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook. Successful candidate(s) may be required to work on any site dependant on the needs of the service. The department requires staff to work shifts that ensure that the continual service needs of the department can be met. To achieve this, you will be required to work within a rotational shift pattern which will include shifts throughout the departments 24 hours a day / 7day service.
