We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist to join our team.Applicants must have an IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences, be HCPC registered and have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio. Experience in a NHS Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory is essential.
A band 5 BMS with experience and progressing with the Specialist Portfolio will be considered.
Our busy UKAS and MHRA accredited department is fully computerised (Telepath) and benefits from modern purpose built premises in a new PFI Hospital. Equipment includes Sysmex HST track, DM96 Digital Microscope, Beckman Navios Flow Cytometer, IL TOPs coagulation analysers, BioRad Variant II and twin Ortho Innova’s.
The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in all aspects of the service including Routine Haematology, Coagulation, Blood Transfusion and the Specialist Haematology section and where appropriate will assist in the development of trainee staff.
The Department operates a 24/7 Haematology service supported by rotas which attract Sessional fee payments 20:00 to 08:00 week days and 08:00 to 20:00 and 20:00 to 08:00 weekends and bank holidays. Participation in the out of hour’s service is a contractual requirement. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in these rotas following suitable training and competency assessment. Core hours are from 08:00 to 16:30 and a late shift from 11:00 to 20:00.
We are an IBMS accredited training laboratory. The department regularly holds lunchtime seminars from internal and external speakers and we have an experienced Training Lead in post to support training needs. You must be keen to develop your knowledge and skills but to also develop others.
