Frontier Pathology is a joint venture between Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. We are an innovative partnership of NHS pathology services, established to secure and develop pathology services for clinicians and their patients in Brighton, Surrey and Sussex. We provide pathology services in a wide variety of settings, serving our founding Trusts, other NHS and private hospitals and primary care organisations.

The Microbiology service is based on three sites at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath and Crawley Hospital, Crawley. The Brighton laboratory acts as a collaborating centre for Public Health England and links are established with BSMS Medical School. The laboratory holds CPA and UKAS accreditation and offers excellent training and staff development opportunities.

A full range of clinical services including virus serology and an extensive range of molecular tests are provided from the Brighton laboratory; food, water and environmental microbiology and MRSA screening at the Haywards Heath laboratory and a full range of clinical services including virus serology and some molecular tests at the Crawley laboratory.

Applicants must be HCPC registered, hold an MSc or Fellowship of the IBMS with extensive (minimum 4 years) post registration experience at a specialist level in a routine diagnostic microbiology laboratory. The post holder will be a departmental Health and Safety Coordinator and experience in this area is an advantage. A Health and Safety qualification will be desirable.

An advanced scientific knowledge of Microbiology along with the ability to demonstrate experience of staff support, training, development and supervision is essential. Knowledge and awareness of the requirements of UKAS/CPA and other quality management standards is essential.

The successful applicant must be conscientious and enthusiastic and able to work well as part of a team. Applicants must be prepared to work and attend meetings at any of the three sites.

• Posts in the Trust are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal spent and unspent convictions, reprimands, and cautions.

• Appointment to this role will commence at the lowest salary point unless confirmed otherwise by HR Employment Services (Recruitment, Administration & Terms and Conditions)
