A formal collaborative partnership agreement has been established with University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, increasing the level of joint working between the two Trusts and is part of the NHS vision of developing networks between smaller and larger Trusts. This reflects the ongoing North Somerset Sustainability programme to build a strong future for Weston General Hospital.
We are a small friendly laboratory and it has been exciting time within the department. We have developed a new Blood Sciences Service, implemented a new Clinisys Winpath 7.21 LIMS and we are about undertake a tendering process for new state of the art equipment and managed service. We have a vision to deliver an innovative, high quality service that is focussed on the needs of our customers
The newly formed Blood Sciences department comprises of Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry and Blood Transfusion services and provides a multidisciplinary 24/7 service. It is MHRA compliant and UKAS accredited to ISO 15189:2012. It delivers a comprehensive diagnostic service to a wide range of service users both within the hospital and GPs and is well equipped with Roche P 612, COBAS 6000 analysers, Sysmex XE-2100s and HST track system, Menarini Hb9210, Sysmex CS2100 Coagulation analsyers, IBG Immucor ECHO Blood Grouping Instrument and Diamed Card technology.
We have two band 5 Biomedical Scientist posts. Applications are invited from well-motivated Biomedical Scientists with an interest in Clinical Biochemistry to work in the recently formed Blood Sciences Department. Candidates must be HCPC Registered as a Biomedical Scientist. As a Band 5 BMS, the successful candidate is expected to undertake the IBMS specialist portfolio in Clinical Chemistry.
Training will be provided in Haematology and Blood Transfusion, to enable you to work the multidisciplinary shift system. The candidate must be able to cover day, evenings, nights and weekend sessions. The post is full time, the average working hours over the shift pattern being 37.5 hours.
