Surrey Site Lead Biomedical Scientist, Bacteriology
Band 8a
Bacteriology

Full time (37.5 hours)

Are you looking for a senior Biomedical Scientist position with a desire to work as part of one of the largest NHS led Pathology Services in the UK?

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and well-motivated BMS with appropriate qualifications and/or relevant experience to join the leadership team of the Infection & Immunity Sciences (I&IS) department for the newly formed Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS).

You will, with the Deputy General Manager, be responsible for the organisation and performance of all aspects of the routine and specialised services delivered by the Bacteriology Department for the Surrey half of the network.

You must be keen to embrace new ways of working and develop your knowledge and skills in order to grow in the role. Working with the counterpart Berkshire hub Site Lead, the I&IS senior managers and with Clinical colleagues at all BSPS sites you will ensure a co-ordinated and effective service is provided by best use of staff and resources to continue to provide a service to UKAS ISO 15189 standards.

The laboratory has recently undergone the UKAS transitional visit and has been recommended for accreditation to ISO 15189 status pending findings clearance. The lab is well equipped with a Kiestra TLA system, Faecal PCR testing and Mast UriSystem. MALDI-TOF and GenExpert complete the picture for an efficient and highly-automated Bacteriology department.

A project to facilitate remote Blood Culture incubators and a more Bacteriology-centric Rapid Response Laboratory are to be piloted at the Royal Berkshire Hospital site with the intention of using this model across the spoke sites of the network.

Our laboratory is fully accredited with CPA and HCPC training status.
You will on occasion be required to work at other network sites for meetings or training to maintain quality, training and service requirements.
