Biomedical Scientist - Pathology

Employer: University of Leicester
Location: Leicestershire
Salary: Band 5
Type: Permanent
Expires: 20 Oct 2017

We are pleased to be offering an exciting opportunity for 1 x Full time Biomedical Scientist (37.5 hours per week) and 1 x part time (18.75 hours per week) Biomedical Scientist to join our Immunology team based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Pathology has a regional Immunology service spanning Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. Our Immunology department provides a unique opportunity to experience a comprehensive repertoire of Immunology investigations of routine and specialist immunology assays for the diagnosis and management of autoimmunity, allergy, immunodeficiency and Haematological malignancy.

Bringing with you some Immunology experience along with scientific and technical knowledge of immunological techniques, you will be a highly motivated HCPC state registered BMS, preferably with good level of UK NHS laboratory experience.

In combination with using your technical knowledge to provide high quality patient services, you will also work closely with the senior team to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory through supervision and training of staff, and taking an active role in ensuring our quality agenda is centre to all we do. You will be required to trouble shoot equipment and assay failures and contribute to development of the service.

As our services work closely together, there may be a requirement to work at any of our hospital sites in Leicester and also our laboratory at the Queens Medical Centre Nottingham. Current department opening hours are 8am to 6pm and the role will include participation in an On Call weekend rota following completion of the training and competency programme, if needed. Please note all Biomedical Scientists are contracted to work across a 24 / 7 period as per service need requirements.

The department is CPA accredited and CPD is actively encouraged and supported. Suitable candidates may have the opportunity to undertake post registration training in the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Immunology in parallel to service needs.
